Definition of weather

Short-term changes such as temperature, humidity, rain, cloudy, etc.

100

What's a meteorologist?

They study and analyze weather data using different tools. They do NOT study meteors.

100

What lessons (list at least 2) did the Salmon Boy tell us?

Don’t waste food or be ungrateful

Respect the land and natural resources

Don’t take too much, give back

100

What does an Energy Budget Mean?

Balance of how much energy we have in earth and how much is leaving

100

What can you do to help with reducing greenhouse gases/ climate change

- Many things like: recycle, reuse

- plant trees/your own food

- if you have the money, go for renewable energy sources like solar panels

- close lights when your not using them

- use paper straw instead of plastic

Definition of Climate

Long-term changes that impact weather patterns, last at least 30 years and long

200
How do weather satellites work?

collect data about eath's atmosphere, surface, and clouds from space

200

How are humans and nature connected? List at least 2 ways.

- other

we need each other to survive

- Land teaches us what we need to do

- people belong to the land, not the other way around.

200

What is latitude?

The distance a place is from the equator. The closer you are, it's hotter

200

If bugs are eating all the plants, what can farmers do?

Change the crops or use natural predators (bug killers)

300

List 6 different types of extreme weather events

floods, heatwaves, wildfires, droughts, tornados, blizzards, monsoons, hurricans

300

How do cloud observations predict the weather?

Different types of clouds show what kind of weather is coming. So lots of grey clouds probably mean a storm is approaching

300

What are two concerns for Indigenous communities with climate change?

Rising Sea Levels threaten communities that need coastal resources and Changing Migration Patterns impact their food supply

300

What are burning fossil fuels? List 2 examples.

Oil and Coal are examples, you burn them to get energy. Non-renewable
300

Focusing on climate change, what natural cause might have killed the dinosaurs? EXPLAIN

Meteor Impact- debris/dust covers sun, plants can't grow, dinos have no food

400

What's a farming solution if there is a drought?

Install a drip irrigation system (water sprinkler)

400

How do computer Models work and what are the cons of it?

collect data about temp, wind, and air to make predictions. But weather changes quickly and data might be wrong or missing.

400

What are 3 things we can do to help Indigenous communities?

Learn and share

Respect Traditional Knoweldge

Take Action

400

How do plants (biosphere) impact climate change?

Trees absorb C02 which is a gas in the air that gets trapped and heats earth, so it regulates temperature
400

What's another natural process of climate that might have killed the dinos?

Volcano Eruption- sky filled with ash and gases, cooling earth, messing up climate. Making it hard for dinos to survive

500

List the 4 natural causes of climate change and explain if it cools or heats the earth.

Volcano Eruptions: cool

Meteors: cool

Orbit/output: both

500

What are Radar systems and what are the cons (bad) about them?

They track weather by detecting radio waves. If something is blocking the waves, it impacts their data.

500

Who can you ask in the Indigenous community, to learn the stories to help us understand climate better?

Local Elders/Knowledge Keepers: These are people who have lived in an area for a while and have LOTS of knowledge. They remember how the climate was before and can notice changes. Their stories will help us understand climate change.

500

List the 2 earth systems that reflect energy and the 2 systems that absorb energy (heat)

Reflect: clouds and ice

Absorb: Plants/land and Oceans

500

Do scientists actually know how the dinosaurs all died? Explain what you think WE DO know.

No we don't really know everything, there's more than 6+ theories on what might have impacted dinos. We do know there was an asteroid that caused a mass freezing. What we think is that other stuff made dinos weaker before the asteroid, like sea level changes, climate change, volcanoes and meteros.
