You can put an = sign between the subject and the predicate noun or adjective for this type of verb
What is a linking verb?
The receiver of an action. This also answers the questions "what?" or "whom?"

This type of verb is followed by a direct object or indirect object
What is a transitive verb?
This renames the subject and follows a linking verb.
What is a predicate noun?
This type of verb is an action verb without a direct object
What is an intransitive verb?
This describes the subject and comes after a linking verb.
What is a predicate adjective?
is, am, are, was, we, be, being, and been are this type of verb
What are states of being verbs?
This answers the questions "to/for whom/what?"
