Baking Powder and Baking Soda are both very useful leavening agents in baking, giving rise to cakes and breads alike, but they both have very different uses, and should not be used interchangeably or together. Baking Powder is used when a recipe does NOT contain a major acid, and Baking Soda only activates when there IS an acid present.
They can, and often are used together to create acid balances in food.
