The study of the human body
Anatomy and Physiology
Basic unit of all living things
cells
In your own words, define homeostasis
Homeostasis is the bodies ability to maintain balance in order to keep various things at the appropriate levels.
skeletal system
Divides the body into anterior and posterior sections
Frontal (Coronal)
Concerned with the structure of a part
Anatomy
composed of similar types of cell and performs a specific function
Tissue
If blood pressure becomes to low, baroreceptors are stimulated and the brain sends impulses to the heart. The heart increases cardiac output and eventually the blood pressure returns to normal. Is this positive or negative feedback?
Negative
Secretes chemicals that are messengers between body part, maintain proper functioning of the reproductive system
Endocrine System
The nails are ____________ in the anatomical position
Dorsal (posterior)
Concerned with the function of the part
Physiology
Groups of tissues working together to perform a specific function
Organs
When blood glucose level rises, the pancreas releases insulin. This tells the body cells to take up more glucose. The blood glucose level then declines.
Is this positive or negative feedback?
Negative
Composed of the skin, hair, and nails
Integumentary System
The sternum is _________________ to your mouth
inferior
The most simple. Compose all substances.
Atoms
Atoms joined together
Molecules
Childbirth is an example of which type of homeostasis feedback? Explain.
Positive, Contractions cause the release of oxytocin and oxytocin increases the contractions. More contractions lead to more oxytocin being released. ( more, more, more)
List the 3 components of the nervous system
1. Brain
2. Spinal Cord
3. Nerves ( Peripheral Nerves)
Your heart is __________ to your lungs
Medial
Tiny structures found in cells that perform cellular functions
Organelles
List the levels of organization from smallest to largest: Starting with the cell.
1. Cell
2.
3.
4.
5.
Cell, Tissue, Organs, Organ System, Organism
Explain why body temperature is an example of negative feedback.
Body temperature regulation is an example of negative feedback because as the body temperature rises, our body sends out signals that cause us to sweat. The sweat in turn cools the body down, so that we can return back to normal.
List the 3 types of muscles in the muscular system
2. Cardiac
3. Smooth
