Which Type of Vegetation Regions?
100

This landform is a lower portion of land, found between two mountains or hills. They often have streams or rivers running through them.

Valley

There are two areas of the world in this climate region: Arctic and Antarctic Circles. There are two sub-groups of this climate region: tundra and icecap. The tundra includes temperatures as high as 10°C, but the temperatures rarely rise above 0° year-round.

Polar Region

100

Places around the world have different low or high air pressure zones. Winds move between these zones making changes. The temperature changes with the wind depending on if hot or cold air arrives.

Wind Currents

100

The whole body of salt water that covers nearly 70% of the surface of the Earth

Ocean

100

This vegetation region has almost no rainfall.  This region has really high day-time temperatures and low nighttime temperatures.  The soil is sandy or rocky.  The plants in this region have long roots, small leaves, and steams that can store water.

Desert

200

This landform is an elevated portion of land that has sloping sides that are less steep and lower than mountains.

Hill

200

Areas of the world in this climate region have low precipitation. There are two sub-groups: arid and semiarid. Rainfall is limited to all areas within this climate region, with some areas receiving NO rainfall throughout the year.

Dry Region

200

This issue affects the ecosystem by reducing wildlife habitats and leaves the soil susceptible to erosion. Deforestation is one factor in climate change because the trees no longer exist to decrease the carbon dioxide levels in the air. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas because it traps the heat in the atmosphere.

Deforestation

200

A large body of ice moving slowly down a slope or valley or spreading outwards on a land surface.

Glacier

200

There is no vegetation in this vegetation region.  This region consists of a large area pf ice that covers over 50,000km.

Ice Sheets

300

This landform is an elevated part of the Earth’s surface. It has steep sides that meet in a peak, typically about 300 metres high.

Mountian

300

Areas of the world in this climate region experience temperatures that remain constant throughout the year. This region begins at the equator and stretches to the Tropic of Cancer to the north and the Tropic of Capricorn to the south. There are three sub-groups of this climate region: wet, monsoon, and wet and dry.

Tropical Region

300

The climate is warmer the closer to the equator the area is located. The farther away from the equator the temperature gets colder. This is because the heat from the sun is more concentrated closer to the equator.

Lattitude

300

A body of salt water that is partially land-locked  (surrounded by land)

Sea

300

This vegetation region can be found all over the world and will appear different depending on where it is located and what types of trees grow there.  The specific types of this region can be characterized by the different leaves that grow on the trees.

Forest

400

This landform is a flat, elevated portion of land that has a steep slope on its sides.

Plateau

400

Areas of the world in this climate region have colder winters, snow that lasts a while, and shorter growing seasons. These areas experience extreme changes within seasons. These climate regions only exist in the Northern Hemisphere. There are three sub-groups: warm summer, hot summer, and subarctic.

pumpkin

400

Warm water flows away from the equator, while cold water flows towards the equator. These warm and cold currents affect the temperature of coastal areas.

Ocean Currents

400

An inland body of standing water

Lake

400

This vegetation region has cold winters and short seasons. It makes is difficult for trees to grow in this region.  The vegetation is grasses, shrubs, and mosses. There are two types of regions: artic and alpine.

Tundra

500

This landform is a large, wide area of land that is relatively flat. This landform covers about 1/3 of the world’s land area! This landform is mostly treeless.

Plain

500

Areas of the world in this climate region have a distinct cold season. The climate in these areas are defined by how far north or south of the equator they are (their latitude) and their position on the continent. There are three sub-groups of this climate region: Mediterranean, humid sub-tropical, and Marine West Coast.

Temperate Region

500

When coal, oil, and natural gas are burned through personal (cars) or commercial (factories) use they release carbon dioxide, which traps the heat in the atmosphere and over time changes the climate of the Earth.

Burning Fossil Fuels

500

A natural stream of water of usually considerable volume.

River

500

This vegetation region is flat, grassy, and open. This vegetation region is found on all continents, except Antarctica.  The climate if the region will change the vegetation that grows there.
