Non-living thing
Abiotic
Organisms that make their own food
Producers
A turtle getting cleaned by cleaner fish is an example of...
Mutualism
Where all of the organisms first get their energy from.
The sun.
What is Mr. Yoon's test retake policy?
All formative and homework must be marked complete.
A factor that stops a population from growing
Limiting Factor
The percentage of energy that is transferred from one trophic level to the next.
10%
Mutualism, Commensalism, Parasitism, & Predation are examples of what ecological term?
Symbiosis
Ecological level that contains different populations in the same location.
Community
Mr. Yoon's x-block classroom
Mr. Treiber's room/Room 213
The number where a population stabilizes in an ecosystem.
Carrying capacity
Why do tertiary consumers have the smallest populations compared to trophic levels underneath them?
Because they get the least amount of energy.
Tigers and Leopards both hunt the limited number of elephant calves. What ecological interaction is this an example of?
Competition
What were the 2 graphs we made for the plant lab? Include what type of graphs used.
Bar graph comparing your plant mass to the teacher's plant mass
Line graph tracking the plant's growth over time
The symbols used to represent Commensalism.
+/0
What is the correct order from smallest to largest for the following terms: Biome, Ecosystem, Population, Biosphere, Community, Organism.
Organism (smallest), Population, Community, Ecosystem, Biome, Biosphere
Why are decomposers so important?
Recycle dead organisms into nutrients for the soil for producers.
How are parasitism and predation similar?
one organism benefits, the other is harmed
Dwarf mistletoe grows into the bark of a tree to take the tree's nutrients and water. This is an example of...
Parasitism
The sport that Mr. Yoon coaches.
Gymnastics
What is the difference between a biome and an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is in one specific place, where a biome is a collection of all the places that have a similar ecosystem.
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web?
A food chain shows how energy travels from 1 organism to another in a simple way with 1 organism for each trophic level. A food web is a collection of food chains.
Why do predator and prey populations go up and down in cycles?
As predators hunt prey the prey population decreases which makes the predator population decrease. With less predators the prey population can increase which makes the predator population increase as well.
What year does the population of polar bears hit its carrying capacity?
Use the graph on the board to answer the question
2005
The first year NBJH was opened
1960
