It is likely that the earth's crust is constantly in motion due to this activity in the mantle.
What are convection currents.
100
States that the Earth's outer shell consists of plates that move causing various geologic phenomena that are also responsible for "earth-building" events.
What is the PLATE TECTONICS THEORY
100
When rock becomes weathered and breaks down due to various forces of nature, we are left with this which in turn transforms into this type of rock.
What is SEDIMENT turning into SEDIMENTARY ROCK.
100
What is the difference between WEATHER and CLIMATE?
Weather is the day to day expression of atmospheric pressure, temperature, precipitation, humidity, windspeed, cloud cover etc. Climate is the long-term pattern for these conditions. In other words, climate is the average weather for a place over a long period of time.

The FOUR main components of a true soil?
What are: Minerals, Organic Matter, Moisture and Air
200
Climate graph data shows us that the temperature range for a climate station is 20 degrees celsius. What type of climate would this be?
What is a Maritime Climate.
200
The earth is composed of FOUR levels in terms of its interior. What are these levels starting from the outer level?
Crust --> Mantle --> Outer Core --> Inner Core
200
The geologic foundation of Canada which is mainly composed of Igneous and Metamorphic rock.
What is the CANADIAN SHIELD
200
What are the SIX factors that affect climate (in order)?
Latitude Ocean Currents Wind and Air Masses Elevation Relief Near Water
200
What is top soil? How is it made? What is the top layer called?
Top soil is the uppermost layer of the soil. It is mainly composed of decomposed organic material. Humus gives the top soil its dark colour.
300
The climate factor that deals directly with Earth-Sun relations .
What is Latitude.

How are minerals deposited into the earth's crust?
Minerals found in the magma move through cracks in the earth's crust as the magma enters these cracks. As the magma hardens into igneous rock, these minerals are deposited into the crust. The more dense ones are found lower as opposed to the less dense, lighter ones that float above them.

How have the natural beauty, minerals, rivers, lakes and forests been the economic backbone of the Canadian Shield? How have these resources aided in the economic development of this region?
Tourists find the Shield's scenic regions ideal for recreation activities. These areas are also common for campers and cottage-goers alike. When people come to these areas they are bound to spend money on food and local services which in turn, help the local economy.
300
A climate that sees more precipitation during the summer months.
What is a Continental climate.
300
Why is particle size important in soils? What effect does it have on soils?
Particle size in soils affects water drainage. Larger particles = more drainage because of spaces between the particles whereas smaller particles = less drainage. Therefore, a balanced mix of both particle sizes is essential to allow for moderate drainage rates allowing for plants to still extract water and nutrients from the soil.
400
This landform region has some of the oldest rocks in all of Canada.
What is the Canadian Shield.
400
A THEORY proposed by this man, a GERMAN SCIENTIST, who suggested that 300 million years ago all of the Earth's land masses were connected in one giant supercontinent called Pangea.
What is CONTINENTAL DRIFT by ALFRED WEGENER
400
Natural and human features of the landscape as we see it.
What is TOPOGRAPHY
400
The name given to the climatic effect that proximity to a large body has on weather and climate of a specific area. This causes warmer winters and cooler summers.
What is the MODERATING EFFECT
400
Define ECOZONE
Region categorized by its ecological characteristics. It incorporates human activity, landforms, wildlife, vegetation and the interactions and relationships between them.
500
This landform region of Canada has many valuable resources however they are typically left unharvested due to its remote location.
What are the Innuitian Mountains.
500
The geologic period held the following geologic events during its time. - formation of the Rocky Mountains - formation of of the Innuitian Mountains - shallow seas in the interior of North America at various times
What is the MESOZOIC ERA beginning 570 years ago and ending 245 years ago
500
Large depressions were created in the bedrock during this time period which changed drainage patterns and eventually led to the formation of many lakes in the Canadian Shield region.
What is GLACIATION/ICE AGE
500
The figure used to display temperature and precipitation patterns for an entire year. It uses a line graph and bar graph together to achieve this.
What is a Climate Graph

The situation when a soil loses it minerals do to excess water. Explain how it occurs.
Leaching. Water dissolves the minerals in the soil and excess water moves downward taking all of the minerals with it leaving the plants without food.
