A student walks 15 meters west and then 15 meters north where they stop to talk to a friend.
The magnitude and direction of the student's displacement when they stop is ______________.
What is 21.21 m @ 45 degrees North of West or 21.21 m Northwest of their original location.
We have two legs of a right triangle, so we can use Pythagorean theorem. a^2 + b^2 = c^2
so c = sqrt (15^2 + 15^2)
when the legs are equal in length we have a 45, 45, 90 triangle. We discussed this in class when we looked at making a diagonal across a square.
