What are all living things made of?

Cells

100

What is the function of the cell wall?

Surrounds the plant cell and provides structure for the cell

100

What do we categorized plant and animal cells as?

Eukaryotes

What is science? In your own words.

Science is the use of evidence to construct testable explanations and predictions of natural phenomena as well as the knowledge generated through this process.

200

What organelle produces ATP (cellular energy)?

The Mitochondria

200

What gel-like fluid that supports the cell organelles and holds them in place?

Cytoplasm

200

What types of organisms are prokaryotes?

Bacteria & Archaea; Single-celled organisms.

200

What is the scientific method?

Observations, forming a hypothesis, experimental design, experimentation, gathering & analyzing data, and drawing conclusions.

300

What is Asexual Reproduction ?

Process by which a single parent reproduces by itself.

300

What is the post office of the cell?

Golgi Bodies package and transmit cellular material throughout the cell.

300

Where is a prokaryotes DNA located?

In the nucleoid.

300

Why do we have a control group in an experiment?

We use control groups (groups that do not receive the factor being tested) for comparison. Without a comparison we will not know if a change occurs because of the independent variable.

Double Jeopardy: What are all 8 characteristics of life?

Grow & Development, Reproduction, Organization (Cells), DNA, Maintaining Homeostasis, Obtain & Use Energy, Evolution, Response to Stimuli.

400

What is the function of the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)?

Where materials are processed and moved arounds inside of the cell.

400

How do Eukaryotes reproduce? (2)

- Meiosis

- Mitosis

400

Why do we replicate experiments?

If research results can be replicated, it means they are more likely to be correct. Replication is important in science so scientists can “check their work.” The result of an investigation is not likely to be well accepted unless the investigation is repeated many times and the same result is always obtained.

500

What is an example of our bodies maintaining homeostasis?

Homeostasis is the process of maintaining a stable internal condition despite changes in the external environment.

Ex: Sweating to cool the body, shivering to warm the body, maintaining appropriate pH, regulation of blood sugar, water, and calcium levels.

500

What is a flagella ?

500

What is the structure of Eukaryotes' DNA? What is the structure of Prokaryotes' DNA?

Eukaryotes: Linear

Prokaryotes: Circular

An experiment was performed to determine how the amount of coffee grounds could affect the taste of coffee. The same kind of coffee, the same amount & type of water, the same perking time, and the same electrical sources were used.

What are the independent and dependent variables?

Independent- Amount of coffee grounds

Dependent- Taste of Coffee (qualitative)
