Why does Allah (SWT) punish people?
We learn from punishment. Just like how our Parents love us and want the best for us, they sometimes punish us so we can LEARN. Allah (SWT) punishes in this so we can learn and do better/change while we are still alive, so he will not punish us in the hereafter (Hellfire) inshaAllah. It's better to get punished here and repent for our sins now than to die without doing so.
