How would you describe a prime number? How would you describe a composite number? What is different between the two

Prime number: A number whose factors are one and itself (ie. 13 1X13=13 is the only way to multiply to 13)

Composite: A number who has more than one factor. (ie. 4 1X4=4 and 2X2=4)

Find all the factors of the number 2.

(HINT! Factors are ways to MULTIPLY to the number NOT add)

The only factors of 2 are 1 and 2

1x2=2

Complete the pattern!

3,6,9,12

100

How do you know if a number is prime?

It's only factors are 1 and the number. There is only one way to multiply to the number.

What is the only even number that is prime?

2, the only way to MULTIPLY to 2 is 1X2=2

300

Find all the factors of 30

HINT: all the ways you can MULTIPLY (make even groups) NOT ADD

1x30=30

2x15=30 (we know that 4 isn't a factor because we can't split 15 in half evenly to make 4 equal groups)

3x10=30

5x6=30 (we know we are done finding all the factors because 5 and 6 are next to each other!)

300

How do you know when you have found all the factors?

When the factors come one after another and there are no numbers in between .

Example:

15: 1,3,5,15 (3 and 5 are next to each other and 4 is not a factor)

6: 1,2,3,6 (2 and 3 are both right next to each other and there is no number in between)
