What are the 4 parts of visual story telling?
Character, Plot, Conflict, Theme.
Which art medium doesn't come off of clothes?
Acrylic.
What is the definition of Express?
Express means to communicate your ideas, beliefs or feelings.
What is a folk tale?
A story originating in popular culture, typically passed on by word of mouth. Different cultures have different stories they pass around.
What is a character?
The protagonist or antagonist of a story. The people the story is about or who help the story move along. They can either have a huge role or a small role.
What is the Salt technique and what does it do?
You put watercolors down and then sprinkle salt on top. The salt pulls the watercolor leaving the spot lighter/making it look like stars or snow.
What is the definition of Stretch and Explore?
When you explore, you are discovering new ideas and ways of working.
What is Symbolism?
When you turn an ordinary object, place, color, person, etc into something that goes beyond the literal or has another meaning. (Like yellow could symbolize happiness or the sun).
How do you define Critical Thinking?
I use reason to break problems into parts that can be named, studied and understood. I take time to consider an idea before accepting or rejecting it.
What is theme?
Theme is the main idea or underlying meaning. Often, it's the storyteller's personal opinion on the subject matter.
What is Texture in Art?
Either drawing the perceived surface quality (what something would feel like if touched) of something OR giving a texture to a 3D piece of art.
How do we express ourselves in art?
We express ourselves by making art about our stories or by communicating our messages, ideas, or beliefs visually.
Why is storytelling important?
Stories pass along information among community members, they help us remember or imagine new worlds. They help us solve problems and try solutions. They help educate people and create perspective.
What is one way you use Self Determination in Art Class?
Applying self directed learning for a desired outcome OR evaluating the strengths and areas of growth in myself.
Why are visual stories important?
They can help illustrate more complex or important ideas as well as connect with us at a deeper level to elicit emotions and deliver a heartfelt message.
What are the two categories of Shape and what is an example of each?
Organic/freeform shape: leaf and geometric: triangle.
How do we Stretch and Explore?
By using new materials, techniques or processes we might not know about for our art.
What 3 ways did we practice telling stories?
Illustrating someone else's story, using symbols to tell a story, and making a self-portrait about our past or future.
What is one way you use Critical Thinking in Art Class?
I can break down a problem, text, concept, process, or argument into smaller parts and explain them. OR I can ask questions that push my thinking and classmates' thinking.
