Salutary Neglect is ignoring the navigation acts put in place, instead of removing them from the “rule book” entirely
its removal was because of Britain’s large debt from the 7 yrs war (England was already highly taxed), and the new king George the Third, believed that the colonies needed to be more tightly ministered.

He saw that republics existed in the past, and were very fragile bc of factions. EVERYONE NEEDED REPUBLICAN VIRTUE. Said that big republic would be GOOD because their would be so many different interest groups, that they would check/balance eachother. Non would be big enough to dominate all the rest.
