Depending on how a character speaks we can gather information about them. For example, in The Crucible, the characters speak in Olde English, so we can assume that the story takes place some time ago.

The way actors deliver lines can change the overall mood of a scene. For example, in The Crucible, the girls start physically moving away from the "bird" in Act III. This shows us that they are genuinely afraid and truly believe that there is a bird in the rafters.
