The exchange of information or news; conveying or sharing ideas and feelings
What is communication?
An action taken which involves defending the health and wellness of oneself from harm
What is self-defense?
Treating someone differently or poorly based on certain characteristics or differences
What is discrimination?
Verbal, Physical, Cyber, Social/Relational
What are types of harassment (bullying)?
Being truthful, not lying
What is honesty?
Poor eye contact, prioritizes the needs of others, allows others to take advantage, does not express their own needs or wants, is soft spoken, is quiet and lacks confidence
What is passive communication?
Your hands, elbows, knees, legs, head and voice (hint: these have an important role in self-defense)
What are your personal weapons of self-defense?
A form of aggression where there is a power imbalance (clue: one person has power over the other)
What is bullying ?
A student can fill this out with the assistance of the DASA coordinator
What is a DASA complaint form?
Each person values who the other is and understands the other person's boundaries
What is mutual respect?
A person expresses that their own needs, wants and feelings matter, they are easily frustrated, speaks in a loud and overbearing way, unwilling to compromise, frequently interrupts, is disrespectful and uses criticism, humiliation and domination
What is aggressive communication?
A person's eyes, nose, throat, torso/pelvic area, groin, shins, top of feet
What are vulnerable points of the body?
Decreased self-esteem, low self-worth and self-confidence, possible anxiety, depression and isolation
What ways can a person's mental health be affected if being harassed?
Ask them about their situation, support them to seek help, make sure they are safe, let them know they are not alone and look out for their mental health
What are ways to support a friend who is being harassed?
Controlling, jealousy, dismissive of your feelings, consistently puts others before you and brings you down instead of lifting you up
What are signs of an unhealthy relationship?
Emphasize the importance of both peoples' needs, stands up for own needs, wants and feelings, listens without interruption, clearly states needs and wants, willing to compromise, confident tone and body language, good eye contact
What is assertive communication?
A powerful personal weapon and should be used first, if possible, to deter an attacker
What is your voice?
One's religion, ethnic background, sexual orientation, race, physical or mental disability
What are some ways a person can be discriminated?
The DASA Coordinator and Student Assistant Counselor (SAC) at VCHS
Who is Mr. Hession?
Each person has their own friends, family, interests, hobbies and the other person does not want to change these things. They are supportive of you trying new things and meeting new people. They do not want to change who you are.
What are separate identities?
Verbal, non-verbal and written
