What is the likely cause of fatigue to the ATP-PC system?

Fuel depletion

100

Explain the difference between active and passive recovery?

In an active recovery you keep moving and keep an elevated HR

100

What does LIP stand for?

Lactate Inflection Point

100

What is hyperthermia?

Elevated temperature

100

What topic did we study in Step Up Week?

Skill Acquisition

200

List 3 fatigue mechanisms

Thermoregulation

Accumulation of by-products

Fuel depletion

200

Explain what is meant by the term muscle pump?

The muscles are contracting during active recovery and forcing the blood back through the veins.

200

What energy system is predominant when LIP has been reached?

Aerobic system

200

What are 2 factors that would determine how much you fatigue in an event or sport?

Intensity

Duration

Environment

Fitness level

200

What colour is Mr Hobbs' car?

Red

300

What is the difference between central fatigue and peripheral fatigue?

One occurs inside the muscle the other occur in the general body

300

List 3 sports in which you would perform a passive recovery and why.

High Jump

Shot put

Javelin

It allows faster restoration of PC

300

Explain what LIP is

The last intensity at which the rate of lactate production and removal are equal.

300

If you wanted to fully restore the ATP-PC system roughly how long would you need to wait?

3-10mins

300

What's the formula for area of a circle?

Pie times r squared

400

Give 2 examples of peripheral fatigue?

Fuel depletion

By-product build up

400

If you have worked past LIP what recovery would be best and why?

Active recovery would be best.

The increased blood flow will allow for quicker removal of by-products.

400

Explain why a better aerobic fitness will increase the intensity before hitting LIP?

Having a better aerobic fitness will mean less reliance on the anaerobic system and therefore less H+ ion build up.

400

What was the difference between relative VO2 max and absolute VO2 max?

Absolute VO2max is the total amount of oxygen that an athlete can take in, transport around and use.

Relative VO2max takes into account the persons body weight.

400

Who has been running free webinar's (Links have been posted on Edmodo)?

Rob Malpeli

500

What is the most likely cause of fatigue in a marathon? How can you delay the onset of this?

-Thermoregulation - stay hydrated, run under cool showers.

Fuel depletion - nutrition in the lead up and taking on carbs during race.

500

Why does PC restore faster when at rest?

PC is restored in the liver. More oxygen is delivered to the liver at rest compared to active recovery/work therefore the liver can produce more PC.

500

Why is the aerobic system the predominant system when LIP occurs?

Because when LIP occurs you are working at a sub maximal intensity which means you will be working aerobically.

500

Explain 2 physiological responses to hyperthermia and how this causes fatigue?

Increased blood flow to the surface which results in vasoconstriction at the muscles.

Reduced blood volume due to increased sweat rates which results in the heart having to work harder.

How many multi choice questions are there?
