What is energy?
The ability to do work
What can force make an object do?
Hint: 4 different things
1. Start moving
2. Stop moving
3. Change speed
4. Change direction
If its an open ciruit?
If it is a closed circuit?
if its open its broken
If its closed it flows
What are the forms of energy?
MELTS
Mechanical, electrical, light, thermal, sound
What would be the purpose of having a bush in the desert?
To provide energy for any animal that consumes a producer.
Absorbtion
When light is absorbed by another object and stops it from passing through
A marble is at the top of each ramp, which ramp will the marble travel the furthest?
A
Draw a picture of a Parallel circuit.
What type of energy does a TV use. Give examples for each.
Electrical- The TV has to be plugged in and part of a circuit
light- the screen produces
sound- the speaker makes noise
What is the difference between a thermal conductor and an insulator and give an example of each
Conductors helps the flow of energy
example: Penny, iron nail, Metal
Insulator stops or keeps the flow of energy in
example: wood, plastic
Reflection
The bouncing back of light rrays from a surface.
A force between two surfacses rubbing against each other.
Friction
Draw a picture of a Series circuit.
If you shine a light from position E where would it reflect off of and Why?
Position A because light travels in a straight line until it is int his case reflected. The angle of incident will be the same as the angle of reflection.
Students made observations of several different substances and classified them into the groups shown. How could you classify which items go in each group.
Soda, brick, lamp, helium, air, milk
Solid-
Liquid-
Gas-
Solid- brick, lamp
Liquid- Water, Milk
Gas- Helium, Air
Refraction
The bending of light rays as they move from one material into another material.
How does force relate to motion?
Without force, there is no motion
Why does the 2nd light bulb not glow?
The light bulb is not part of the closed circuit.
A person is looking into a pool and sees an image of themselves. Why is that?
Light is reflected by the pond.
The amount of mass in a known volume of an object or substance
Density
When light passes through a material.
Transmission
A student pulls a wagon gram block across the sidewalk. If the students sibling sits on the wagon, what would happen to the amount of force needed to pull the wagon?
The amount of force needed would increase.
What will happen if the switch is open on the following parallel circuit?
The first two light bulbs would still light up, the last light bulb will not light up.
What type of materials reflect light energy?
What type of materials refract light energy?
Reflect- Shiny materials
Refract- transparent materials
What is the difference between a mixture and a solution.
Solution- 2 or more substances mixted together, 1 must be a liquid, not easily seperated, properties change
Mixture- 2 or more substances mixed together, easily seperated, properties do not change
