The branch of government responsible for ensuring that laws are carried out. It's leader lives and works in the White House and he/she has the power to veto bills and lead the military.

An area of the state set apart by the government for special purposes. NJ has 40 of them.

The many differences among a nation's people, including differences in a person's race, religion, or place in society.

The system of government in the U.S., in which power is balanced between the national and state governments.
What is a federal system?
Passed in 1947, this document gave the governor of NJ more power and changed the NJ court system.

An economy that allows people to start and run their own business with limited government control.
What is a free enterprise?
An idea or way of doing something that has been handed down from the past.
What is a tradition?
This imaginary line divides the world into Western and Eastern Hemispheres and is used to help determine time zones.
What is the Prime Meridian?
The branch responsible for making laws. It is split into the House of Representatives and the Senate, also known as Congress, and they work in the Capitol.
What is the legislative branch?
In most court cases, people have this right, which allows them to ask a higher court to change a lower court's decision.
What is appeal?
Economic problems in one country may affect other countries because of this, which means that people in each place depend on others for products and resources.
What is interdependence?
Two organizations the U.S. is a part of that help us resolve conflict.
What are NATO and the UN?
New Jersey's region for the use of clocks (time).
What is Eastern Time Zone?
The leaders of this branch are the 9 Justices who work in the Supreme Court and are responsible for making sure that laws are fair.
What is the judicial branch?
This document stated that the NJ legislature would govern the state, and did not contain a bill of rights but did grant rights such as the right to vote and trial by jury.
