What are roles of congress?
Makes laws, Controls money and checks power of other branches.
What are the number of seats in each Chamber?
Senate has 100 members and the House has 435 members.
What are the Qualifications for each?
Senators must be 30 years old, a citizen for at least 9 years and live in the state.
Representatives must be 25 years old, a citizen for 7 years and live in the state.
What is impeachment?
Removing a government official for abuse of power or breaking rules.
What are the roles of the US President?
Enforce laws, Make treaties, Lead the military and Represent the country.
What are the 4 types of Politicians?
Trustee, Delegate, Partisian and Politico
census what, why, when?
A count of the US population every 10 years to decide the amount of seats each state gets.
What are the three Delegated powers
Make laws, Tax and regulate trade.
What are the bills VS resolutions?
A bill becomes a law.
A resolution is a statement or rule for congress.
What are the qualifications of the US President?
Must be 35 years old, born in the US and must be a resident for 14 years.
What are the term lengths & limits for both Chambers?
Senators - 6 years
Representatives - 2 years with no term limits.
What is Redistricting/Gerrymandering
Redistricting is when they redraw voting maps.
Gerrymandering is when the do so unfairly in favor of one party.
What is currency?
Congress controls money and how it is spent.
7 steps bill to law
Idea>Commitee>Debate>Vote>Other chamber>President>Signed or vetoed.
What is a order of succession?
A list of who becomes president if something were to happen.
What are the Session Lengths?
Congress will meet once a year typically from January to December.
What are the election dates?
Every early December of even numbered years.
What is Eminent domain?
The government has the power to take private land for public use and is required to pay the assessed value for it.
What is a Veto?
The act of the president rejecting a bill from congress.
What is a transfer of power?
When the presidential power moves to someone else.
What are the benefits and pay?
Members get paid, they also recieve benefits such as health insurance and retirement.
What are incumbents
People that are already in office running for again for the same job.
What are war powers?
Congress can declare war as well as fund the military.
What is a filibuster?
A long speech in the Senate. Used to delay or block a vote.
Executive order VS law
Executive order is a rule made by the president it goes away when the presidential power moves to someone else.
A law is passed by Congress.
