The direct object is what receives the action of the verb.
You identify it by asking yourself "whom? or what?" about the verb.
What is an indirect object, and how do you identify it in a sentence?
An indirect object is what receives the direct object of a sentence.
You ask yourself to whom or for whom the action of the sentence is being done.
