The Exosphere
What kind of heat transfers by direct contact, molecule to molecule?
Conduction
As air molecules rise higher into the atmosphere, what happens to the air pressure at the Earth's surface?
It decreases
List the four phases of the water cycle. They must be in order.
Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection.
Which clouds form closest to the Earth (around 2,000m)?
Stratus
What term is described by the changes in weather patterns and growing seasons around the world?
Climate Change
Ozone molecules are found in the stratosphere. Why is ozone important to the Earth's atmosphere?
Ozone filters solar radiation.
What kind of heat transfers by particles moving through a fluid?
Convection
What instrument measures air pressure?
A barometer
What is the temperature called at which gas condenses into a liquid?

When cold air moves into an area with warm air, the cold air pushes that warm air up, causing clouds. What is it called when cold air moves into an area?
A cold front
What is the most commonly used temperature measurement around the World?

Which layer contains auroras and where can you see auroras on Earth?
The thermosphere and from Earth's poles
Jimmy was playing on a chilly winter day and realized that the walls of the school building were warm, so he warmed his hands by pressing them to the walls. What kind of heat transfer is this?
Conduction

During a class experiment, a teacher mixed ice water with boiling water. The result was warm water. What kind of heat transfer is this?
Convection
When two or more air masses interact, what is this called?
A weather front
Explain the process of how precipitation occurs.
Water on the Earth is heated and evaporates into water vapor. The water vapor rises until it is high enough in the atmosphere that it cools and condenses into clouds (water droplets). Once the droplets condense enough that the atmosphere is unable to hold their weight, they will fall back to the Earth.
Meteorologists study weather and the atmosphere. What are 3 of the 5 kinds of measurements they collect from the atmosphere?
Temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind, and precipitation.
What instrument measures wind direction?
A wind sock
