Why is it important to use RAP?
It is important to use RAP because it states our answer clearly, while being organized, and makes us stronger writers.

What are character traits? Give an example.
Character traits are adjectives that reflect someone personality. For example: curious, kind, cautious, selfish
Use the context clues to tell me what modest means.
"The Japanese couple lived a modest life, in their village home by the forest."
What does the word modest mean?
A. Being older
B. Being too generous
C. Being greedy
D. Not being wealthy
Modest in this sentence means not being wealthy (D)
What is the difference between a question asking you to "identify" and "explain"?
Identify means to just state the answer after I restate the question.
Explain means to support/prove my answer with details from the text and will be a longer answer.
What are two different ways to keep my RAP response organized when I am writing about two different stories/passages?
To stay organized, you should state the title names when explaining your answer. That way your readers do not get confused about which story you are talking about when comparing/contrasting.
ALSO, use transition words to organize your writing and keep it flowing.
Example:
"In The Missing Laptop, the character stole a laptop. However in The Empty Case, the character stole jewelry and money."
What is text evidence? Give me an example of a text evidence sentence starter.
Text evidence is an actual part of the story used to prove/support an answer.
A sentence starter example could be:
"According to Paragraph 2, _______."
"In passage 1 it says, ________"
What does it mean to be curious?
If you are curious, then you are eager to know something or learn something. You really want to know, and can't wait to find out.

What is point of view?
Explain 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person POV.
Point of view determine who is narrating the story. You have to think, is the character IN the story, or OUT of the story?
1st person means the narrator is in the story telling it from their perspective so it uses pronouns such as "I, me, my, we"
2nd person is when the narrator speaks to the audience so it uses pronouns such as, "you, your"
3rd person means the narrator is outside of the story and uses pronouns such as "He, she, they, them"
What is linear structure?
Linear structure means a story has a sequence of events. The story line is told in order from beginning to end.
When you are comparing/contrasting stories, think about the story elements. What are the 5 story elements? Explain each one.
Plot - the main events of a story
Character - who the story is about
Conflict - the problem of the story the character faces
Theme - the message of the story, life lesson learned
Setting - where and when the story takes place
