FDR built a “Little White House” as a place to visit. The hot springs had natural hot water that eased the pain in his legs from polio. As FDR drove around and met the GA locals, he realized that farmers were struggling financially and did not have electricity, leading to the creation of his New Deal programs.

This act passed by Congress in 1939 allowed President Roosevelt to lend weapons/supplies to countries that were fighting the Axis powers during WWII.
What were victory gardens and why were they necessary?
People would grow fruits/vegetables in gardens in their backyards and communities so that food could be sent to the soldiers at war.
What is a bank failure?
Everyone rushed to the banks to take out their cash. Once the banks ran out of cash, they closed their doors. People then lost whatever money they had put in the banks.

A governor of GA and then U.S. Senator (for 38 years!) who supported a STRONG MILITARY and helped the US prepare to fight in WWII. He brought 15 military facilities and the CDC (Center for Disease Control) to GA. He also created the NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM- bringing free/reduced lunch to students.
Describe the attack on Pearl Harbor.
350 Japanese planes surprise attacked the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii the morning of December 7, 1941. They destroyed navy planes and 8 destroyers (battleships). Around 2,000 people died and 1,000 were injured. The U.S. enters WWII the next day.
What are two reasons the U.S entered WWI?
We intercepted a telegram- Germany wanted Mexico to invade the U.S. and promised to give them back Texas if they won the war and Sinking of the Lusitania (killed Americans on board)
How did taking out loans to buy stock (buying on the margin) lead to the Great Depression?
Companies and banks would give loans to people for the sole purpose of buying stocks. Once the stock market crashed, the value of the stocks went down and people were unable to pay back the loans they’d taken out.
