The slaves resisted in many ways, day to day resistance was usually, passive, and consisted of breaking tools, pulling down fences, and stealing food from the kitchen. They refused to work, rejected orders, or struck back violently, when pushed too hard. Slaves also ran away.

The North went through many types of transportation, to get fast transportation for factory owners. By the 1840s, railroads were one of the North's biggest businesses. The South's main type of transportation was natural water ways and canals.

The law says, that enslaved families don't exist, and the legal control of children was in en-slavers control, not the parents. Southern States, also did not recognize marriages between enslaved people.

The South's education was very poor, because en-slavers didn’t want slaves to learn how to read and turn against them. However, the North's education was better, but people were sent to work at a younger age.

The Saturday nights were social events that required work activities, like pea shelling, or corn husking parties. Quilting bees gave women time to express their feelings with needle and cloth. The quilts made were beautiful, and needed for their families. Sunday's were time for religion, and recreation, doing things such as going to church, eating, hunting, fishing, dancing, singing, telling tales, playing games, and visiting with friends.

The enslaved people sang about faith, love, and the kindness and cruelty of masters. They also had lots of legends. Enslaved people, also created dances, that were based on African traditions. They also could dance without music; they had an inner song that would go through their feet. Dancing helped put their cares, to the side, and express their feelings, and refresh their spirits.
