What is cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is any bullying behavior through technology (phone, computer, tablet, internet, etc.).

100

Bystander vs. Upstander

A bystander stands by, laughs, ignores, etc. while an Upstander helps (uses the STAND steps).

100

Act out the "take the victim away" step (without putting your hands on that person)

Invite the person to come with you to play, report or do something away form the bullying behavior.

100

Do you have to use every STAND step for every situation to be an Upstander?

No. You choose the most appropriate one for the situation. Think about safety! Approaching someone who is bullying someone may not be safe for you.

200

What is the 4 part definition of Bullying?

Mean/hurting somone

Over and over again

On purpose

Power imbalance

200

Tattling vs. Reporting (give an example of each)

Tattling is telling an adult about something that is not important, you could have solved it yourself, and your goal is to get another person in trouble ("He took my pencil!")

Reporting is telling an adult something important, that you cannot solve yourself (maybe you tired already) and it is to help get someone out of trouble ("She said she is going to hurt him after school.")

200

Is it ever okay to bully a bully?

Act out the "Stop" step by being an Upstander and not a bully.

Tell the bully to leave the person alone in a respectful, assertive way. Tell them that they are behaving like a bully and they can get in huge trouble.

200

What is the best way to be an Upstander for a gossip situation?

Squash it! Do not pass along any information unless you are quietly asking an adult for help. Stick up for your friend and do not run and tell the Friend that people are talking about them. Then you are the person that made them upset.

300

What is empathy and why is it important in a bullying situation?

Empathy is the ability to understand how a person feels because you have experienced the situation or you can imagine how it would feel. (Walk in someone else's shoes)

300

Bullying vs. Conflict (give an example of each)

Bullying is when someone is mean, over and over, on purpose and there is AN IMBALANCE OF POWER.

Conflict is a disagreement or a problem that comes up between two people and there is no power imbalance. It can be solved alone or with the help of a friend or adult.

300

Someone play a student who was being bullied. Someone else act out how you would show empathy to that student.

You would say something like, "I'm so sorry that happened to you. I bet you feel really sad."

or

"I've been in a similar situation and I know how awful that feels."

300

400

Verbal bullying vs. physical bullying vs. social isolation

Verbal is with words, physical is through actions, social isolation is excluding someone from a group in a purposeful and cruel way.

400
