A monopoly is having economic control over one product. Rockefeller lowered his prices to get rid of competition and once the competition was eliminated, he jacked up the prices.

Home made out of cut out pieces of sod, stacked on top of one another. Lack of trees for wood.

The National Association of the Advancement of Colored People and one of their goals was to obtain civil rights for African Americans.

Yellow Journalism and the sinking of the USS Maine. Yellow Journalists blamed Spain for the incident.

He was a conservationist who helped set up the forest reserve and numerous national parks.

The assembly line allowed good and services to be built at a quicker rate and did not rely on just one period to build a product. Each person would have a specific task on the assembly line.

Railroads allowed people to get across the US at a quicker rate and limited interactions with natives.

Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle; it was about the gross meat processing conditions in factories, and it impacted society because Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act.

Wilson did not believe in breaking up trusts like Roosevelt did.

Explain the makeup of workers during Industrialization and what part of the world immigrants came from. What was the conditions like for the workers?

Workers came from eastern Europe. Many of the workers were children and women.


The conditions were very dangerous for workers, injury and death was very common.

Law passes to give an incentive for settlers to move west. The law gave settlers land as long as they built a home on it and farmed the land for 5 years.

What was the 16th Amendment and what was its impacts? 

The 16th Amendment required a federal income tax. It gave the federal government a new source of revenue instead of tariffs.

What was the outcome of the Spanish American War? 

Spain surrendered and the Treaty of Paris was signed. Gave the US Guam, the Philippines, and Petero Rico. gave Cuba its independence.

prescribes the rule of free competition among those engaged in commerce and consequently prohibits unfair monopolies.
