What happened in this case? - In 1972, several thieves were caught breaking into the Democratic National Committee Headquarters. The thieves purpose was to steal information that would help current President Nixon, get reelected.

The Federal Government then prosecuted Nixon. During the investigation, the government found tape recorders recording conversations in the Oval Office. Nixon was asked to give up the tapes but he refused.

President Nixon then takes the case to the Court of Appeals but they do not take the case and take it right to the Supreme Court. A Special Prosecutor asks the Supreme Court to hear the case so that they move it along and could come to a final decision

The Supreme Court's final decision was that Executive Privilege did not apply to him keeping these tapes private and that the Court has rule over the President in this case therefore he must give them the tapes.
