What is the accident procedure?
Remain calm. Stop the bus and check for injuries. Call the supervisor immediately; inform the sup that you have been involved in a 10-50, and give him or her your bus number, block number, and location (10-20). Request an ambulance or other assistance if necessary. Hand out courtesy cards and encourage passengers to fill them out completely. Each passenger should get a courtesy card, and you should at least obtain the names and phone numbers of all passengers. Accomplish this by letting them out the front door only and collecting each passenger‘s courtesy card as he or she gets off. Passengers willing to wait with the bus until the arrival of the Virginia State Police should be encouraged to do so to assist in the official investigation and answer any questions or clear up any conflicting statements. Do not move the bus unless specifically instructed to do so by a state, city or University police officer or by a sup. If an officer other than a state police officer asks you to move the bus, take down their name and badge number so that the state police know whom to contact. Then move the bus as instructed. Inform your passengers that the bus will not be moving, and suggest alternative routes. Set out emergency triangles. Direct traffic if necessary. Do not discuss the accident with anyone other than a police officer or a sup. Do not admit fault to anyone.
