Explain parvovirus
A virus affecting dog's gastrointestinal tracts - spread through dog-to-dog contact especially with contaminated feces - primarily affects unvaccinated dogs 4 months and younger, but all dogs are at risk.
Some of the signs of parvovirus include lethargy; loss of appetite; abdominal pain and bloating; fever or low body temperature (hypothermia); vomiting; and severe, often bloody, diarrhea.
What does FVRCP stand for
Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia
This provides protection against a few feline respiratory viruses that there is no treatment for. Like Kennel Cough in dogs, it is much easier and safer to prevent these with vaccinations.

Purevax is non-adjuvanted meaning it is a cleaner, safer version for cats to avoid the potential for cancerous tumors to pop up at the injection site. It only lasts for 1 year instead of 3.

Some intestinal parasites are passed to newborn kittens through their mother's milk leaving them exposed after their first feeding. It's important to get them on a monthly control right away to help prevent and control this risk. Additionally, fleas love a nice cozy home like your cat carrier to lice in during the colder months."

Scenario:
A 4 month old puppy comes in just for a rabies vaccine, owners have no known vaccination history. Discuss EVERYTHING you should recommend to this owner.
1) Puppy vaccines: start with PP2 and booster with PP3 in four weeks, rabies added at either visit.
2) Discuss adding a fecal. Just because the dewormer is included does not mean we should skip a fecal.
3) Microchipping
4) Start flea and tick and heartworm prevention - the sooner the better!

Scenario:
Owner just recently found a cat and has decided to keep it. It is full grown, but exact age and history is all unknown. Discuss everything you would recommend.
1) Vaccines - will need boosters in a month. If using kitten packs, add a fecal!
2) FeLV/FIV combo test! Especially if other cats are present in the home, but still good to do regardless.
