Which model can do file? What's the file system max size?
T
256TB
What piece of hardware allows for 4:1 data reduction?
Intel compression chip, AKA offload card, AKA, offload engine.
What are the 2 tiers of the program?
Standard and Select.
What are the PowerStore names for these Unity terms? DPE, DAE, SP, array
Base enclosure, expansion enclosure, node, appliance.
What is the distribution of resources between storage and esxi operations on the X?
50-50 split
Name all of the storage media types.
NVMe flash, NVME SCM, SAS flash
What's that max drive count for cluster? Per appliance?
384.
96 per appliance.
What are all of the upgrade options?
Up 1 generation, up 1 model, credit to scale out
How are data writes different on PowerStore, compared to Unity.
PowerStore uses NVRAM drives for caching to give faster write performance. Data comes in hits CPU, hits DRAM cache, then goes to NVRAM cache.
4x vSphere Enterprise+
Customer can update appliance non disruptively.
Can appliances in a cluster live in different locations?
No
My data center only has room for 2U, and we are not a compute intensive shop. Which anytime upgrade tier should I go with?
Standard tier is the most likely, since they will not have room to scale out and might not need to go up a model. However, live optics should be run to confirm CPU needs and message the value of the Select program in future proofing the appliance if you were to add on new workloads.
I need all NVMe storage and zero downtime, should I go with PowerMax or PowerStore.
PowerMax.
SRDF, fault tolerance isolation, N-way active active, <6 sec upgrades, NVMe-OF.
If I were to stand up an X in one site and an X in another how can I achieve a zero RPO?
Recoverpoint for VMs.
If I have an SCM base enclosure, what's the max number of expansion closures I can add?
0
What is the resource balancer?
Manual our automatic placement of volumes based on available capacity in a cluster.
If I have 3 appliances in a cluster does my 1 upgrade credit apply to all 3 appliances?
No, each appliance in the cluster must be on the anytime upgrade program.
How does federation on SC compare with PowerStore?
On SC you can have automatic failover and migration capabilities with live migration, live volume, and volume advisor.
With PowerStore there are no failover capabilities, migration is manual, and it is mainly to simplify management.
What are the network requirements for using FC on the T and what are the fastest speeds I can use?
1 OOB management switch: 1 GbE
2 TOR ethernet switches: 25GbE
2 FC switches: 32 GB
How does the PowerStore OS differ on the T and the X? And what workloads can I run on each.
On the T it's installed directly on the hardware. On the X it runs as a controller VM on top of esxi.
T:Block, file
X:Block, AppsOn
What kind of replication is supported natively, on what models, for what what workloads, and over what kind of networks?
Async
T and X
Block
Ethernet
What's the value of the Anytime Upgrade Program over Pure's evergreen program from a controller perspective.
Don't have to wait until 3 years is up.
Can also go up a model and use as credit to scale out.
Not locked into support after initial term.
Why would I want to use the AppsOn feature on the X over VxRail?
Have a remote site and not a lot of room for more servers.
You have a few VMs that are not compute intensive but have a lot of back end storage requirements.
Like 3 tier architecture and still want traditional block.
I need FIPs certification is PowerStore a good fit?
While we do have self encrypting drives, we are in the process of getting FIPS certification. We have other storage products in the portfolio with FIPS certified encryption that we can look at.
