Vocations Terms
A person trained to help someone discover his/her vocation
What is a vocation director?
A man who is a member of any of the various monastic orders of the Roman Catholic Church
What is a Friar?
They are part of a congregation and share a common rule and mission.
What are Sisters?
A garment that a religious sister wears.
What is a habit?
A man who has entered a religious order devoted to prayer and contemplation and bound by vows.
What is a monk?
Vocations that do not have a sacrament connected to them.
What are single life and religious life?
These women live in an equal relationship with each other.
What are sisters?
The rules of religious communities.
What are constitutions?
a member of a religious community of women, especially a cloistered one, living under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
What is a nun?
A priest appointed to a church.
What is a Diocesan priest?
Directions from the founder on how to live religious life.
What is a rule?
A person who is a guide to facilitate and assist believers on the path of spiritual growth.
What is a spiritual director?
Saints Benedict, Clare, Francis, Dominic and Ignatius are examples of people who began these organizations where religious gather with a common mission and beliefs.
What are Founders of Religious Orders?
Male members of a religious order that are not priests.
What are brothers?
God's call to serve him in a special way.
What is a vocation?
The covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life.
What is marriage or matrimony?
The quality and state of being holy.
What is holiness.
a college that prepares students to be priests
What is a seminary?
Teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers...those who serve others are examples of these.
What are ministries?
The process in which men or women in the Catholic Church discern, or recognize, their vocation in the church.
What is discernment?
the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time
What is Holy Orders?
A senior member of the Christian clergy, typically in charge of a diocese and empowered to confer holy orders.
What is a Bishop?
