Electrode Holder OR Stinger

200

What is the part that a welder watches and manipulates while welding.

Weld Puddle

200

Explain the difference in the PAC Arc & OAC Flame

OAC (Oxyacetylene Cutting):

  • Uses oxygen + acetylene to create a flame.
  • The flame heats the metal to its ignition temperature.
  • A stream of cutting oxygen then oxidizes and removes the metal.
  • You can see different flame stages/types, such as neutral, carburizing, and oxidizing.

PAC (Plasma Arc Cutting):

  • Does not use a flame.
  • Uses an electric arc and compressed gas to create extremely hot plasma.
  • The plasma melts the metal.
  • High-velocity plasma gas blows the molten metal away to make the cut.
200
Which gas actually cuts the metal?

Oxygen

Name 2 parts of an electrode.

Core Rod/ Filler Metal

Flux Coating

300

Explain how to piece a hole.

  1. Start with torch at an angle

  2. Slowly lower torch as arc penetrates material

  3. Once through, straighten torch and begin cutting

300

What device is used to control the pressure of a gas as it flows from the cylinder to the torch.

REGULATOR

400

What piece of Equipment completes the electrical circuit and protects us from electrical shock?

Ground Clamp/ Workpiece Clamp

400

What's the reason for shielding Gas when welding ?

It protects the weld puddle from the atmosphere preventing contamination during the molten state.

An electrode goes through three phases during welding. Put the three phases in the correct order and identify the two parts of the electrode involved.

Flux>Shielding Gas>Slag

Core Rod> Weld Puddle> Weld Bead/ Weld Pass/ Solidified Metal

500

Order plasma arc cutting proccess.

  1. Position torch at the edge of the workpiece

  2. Trigger the torch to start the arc

  3. Wait for arc transfer to the workpiece

  4. Begin moving the torch along the cutting line

  5. Maintain consistent speed and standoff distance

500

List the OAC set up steps (1-9)

  1. Open the acetylene valves slowly cylinder 1-2 full turns

  2. Open the oxygen valves slowly cylinder all the way

  3. Barely open the gas torch valve

  4. Ignite using an approved striker.

  5. Open the oxygen valve

  6. Adjust the flame to the required neutral cutting flame.

  7. Preheat metal

  8. Hold flame on the side of the metal until its cherry red

  9. Hold the trigger down full and proceed to cut
