What are the different types of insulin and when do you administer them?
Insulin types- short acting 20 minutes after injection, intermediate long acting 10-12 hrs after injection and long acting 24 hrs
Fast acting- Regular, Humalog, Novolog. Administer no more than 30 minutes before a meal or food.
Intermediate- NPH or Lente. Administer no more than 30 minutes before meal or food.
Long acting-Lantus or levemir. Administer as ordered often given at night time or in the morning.
