One treaty created under his administration was Jay Treaty which settled debts between Great Britain and the US, and required GB to leave their forts in the NW. Another one was Pinckney’s Treaty which reopened New Orleans to US trade and established the US border at the 31st parallel.

At the start of Washington’s presidency, the United States had a large amount of national debt from the revolutionary war. Hamilton‘s financial plan called for the federal government to assume state debts, create a national bank to store federal money, and to create tariffs to provide American businesses. Southerners did not like Hamilton‘s plan. Hamilton had to compromise with them by agreeing to move the state capital south.
