What is the main source of energy for the water cycle?

The sun.

100

How many days does it take for the moon to go through all of its phases?

28 Days

100
What tool is used to measure the amount of precipitation (rain fall)?

Rain Gauge

100

What season is it when the northern hemisphere is tilted on its axis towards the sun?

Summer

200

What are three examples of condensation?

Dew, clouds, water bottle.

200

How long does it take for the earth to orbit around the sun?

1 Year or 365 days

200

What tool is used to measure the direction the wind is blowing?

Weather (wind) Vane

200

What season is it when the northern hemisphere is tilted on its axis away from the sun?

Winter

300

Explain the difference between evaporation and condensation.

Evaporation is when liquid water changes into a gas, whereas condensation is when water vapor changes into a liquid (clouds form).

300

What causes different parts of the Moon to be lit as it orbits around the Earth?

Reflection from the sun

300

What tool is used to measure heat energy?

Thermometer

300
What does it mean when there are direct rays? What happens to areas with more direct rays?

It means energy is striking straight on the surface of the Earth. Areas with more direct rays will warm up more than areas with direct rays.

400

Describe what accumulation is.

Accumulation is when precipitation goes into the ground and/or runs off into a lake, river, ocean, or other body of water.

400

Describe what a waning crescent is.

A waning crescent occurs directly before a new moon. Waning means the moon is losing light and crescent is when there is more shadow than there is light.

400

What are weather maps used for?

They are used to make predictions about weather.

400

What does it mean when there are indirect rays? What happens to areas with more indirect rays?

Indirect rays means energy is striking the surface of the earth at an angle. Areas with more indirect rays will be colder than areas with direct rays.

500

Explain the entire process of the water cycle.

The water cycle begins with the sun. The sun heats up the Earth's oceans, rivers, and lakes and the water evaporates and turns into water vapor. This water vapor eventually turns into clouds because of condensation. Precipitation occurs when the clouds become heavy with water droplets. Rain water falls back on the earth and produces run-off.

500

What is the sequence of the moons phases? (List the 4 main ones)

New moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, Third Quarter Moon

500

How long does it take for the Earth to turn one time around its axis?

1 day?
