A hygrometer is....
What is a tool that measures the amount of moisture in the air.
200
Why is cool air heavier than warm air?
What is gas particles in cool air are closer together than those in warm air.

This is the source of a hurricane's energy...
What is warm ocean water.

A barometer is...
What is a tool that measures air pressure.

This type of air exists in a continental polar air mass...
What is cold, dry air.

An important use for Doppler radar is...?
What is tracking tornadoes.

Atmospheric pressure is...
What is the weight of air pushing down on an area.

Name three types of fronts. Describes what happens at each.

What is a warm front, cold front, and stationary front.

Warm front - warmer air moves against and then rises above cooler air. A long period of precipitation is followed by higher air temperatures.

Cold front - cooler air moves against warmer air. This causes the warm air to rise quickly. Heavy precipitation falls and then temperature drops.

Stationary front - a boundary between two air masses moves slowly back and forth over an area. The weather remains cloudy with some precipitation.

Name four tools use by weather forecasters along with what the purpose is.

What is an anemometer, a barometer, and a rain gauge.

Possible answer: An anemometer measures wind speed. A barometer measure air pressure. A rain gauge measures the amount of rain that has fallen. A hygrometer measures the moisture in air.

The uneven heating of Earth causes convection currents to form by....
What is all parts of Earth are not heated evenly. As a result, differences in air temperature occur at various locations. Convection currents form because warm air rises and cool air sinks.
500
Convection current is...
What is the rising and sinking of matter in a circular pattern caused by temperature differences.
