What is a thermometer?

100

The climate we live in.

tropical (humid subtropical) climate

100

2 extreme examples of weather.

What is a hurricane, tornado, flood, forest fire, storm, blizzard, heat wave, earthquake?

100

List 3 types of precipitation

rain, snow, sleet, hail

200

Someone who studies the weather is called a ____.

Meteorologist

200

A tool used to measure air pressure.

What is a Barometer?

200

What is climate?

The average weather conditions over a long period of time (over 30 years).

200

The imaginary line around the middle of the earth is called ____?

The equator

200

Describe condensation.

rainy, stormy, cloudy, high wind, winter, hot, tropical

winter and tropical

300

A tool used to measure wind speed.

What is an anemometer?

300

What happens to the climate as you move away from the equator?

Climates get colder

300

300

What is orbiting Earth and takes pictures and measurements about the weather?

Satellites

400

The amount of water vapor in the air.

What is humidity?

400

A tool used to measure humidity.

What is a Hygrometer?

400

explain the climate in a tropical climate zone.

Hot temperatures with high humidity and precipitation

400

Describe how being close to the ocean affects an area's climate.

The closer a place is to the ocean, the milder the climate will be. It prevents extreme temperatures

400

Based on the map, how does this current most affect the climate of coastal regions it flows past?

It increases winter temperatures (warmer winters) and creates milder climates year-round.

500

When are the least amount of tornadoes happening according to the graph?

between 8-12am

500

What is used to measure wind direction only

wind vane

500

What are 3 factors that decide a place's climate?

Latitude, altitude, distance from the ocean

500

Describe how Latitude affects climate

The closer a place is to the equator, the hotter the climate will be. Further=colder

500

Coastal areas often have smaller temperature changes between seasons than inland areas. This means coastal areas often have warmer winters and milder summers. Why do areas near the water have milder climates?

Water heats up and cools down more slowly than land. This keeps the temperature from changing drastically.
