A large piece of the atmosphere where the air has similar properties throughout.
What is Air Mass?
This instrument is used to measure the amount of rain fall
What is Rain Gauge?
A large storm that brings strong winds and heavy rain. These form over the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
What is Hurricane?
Puffy clouds that have flat bottoms and grow vertically.
What are Cumulus Clouds?
The heat from the sun causes this step to happen. The water on earth is heated and changes from a liquid to a gas, and rises up into the atmosphere.
What is Evaporation?
A boundary between air masses with different temperatures
What is a Front?
This instrument is used to measure the direction the wind is coming from
What is Wind Vane?
A violent whirling wind that moves across the ground in a narrow path.
What is a Tornado?
Wispy, feather like clouds that are very high in the sky. These clouds are so high the water in them freezes into small little ice crystals.
What are Cirrus Clouds?
This step of the water cycle is when water vapor turns back into a liquid and creates a cloud in the atmosphere.
What is Condensation?
A front formed where a cold front moves in UNDER a warm FRONT
What is Occluded Front?
This instrument is used to measure the speed of the wind
What is Anemometer?
As hot air at the Equator rises, it cools high in the atmosphere. as the temperature drops it becomes more dense, causing it to sink. This high pressure air rushes back toward the low pressure around the Equator.
What is Trade Winds?
Low blanket like clouds that normally bring snow or rain. When we have an "overcast" this is the type cloud we have.
What is a Stratus Cloud?
This step of the water cycle brings water back down to the surface of the earth in different forms. These forms can be rain, hail, snow, or sleet.
What is Precipitation?
The type of front that brings warmer weather. This front will cause nimbostratus clouds to form, and will rain for a longer amount of time. This air mass contains air that is less dense.
What is Warm Front?
This instrument is used to measure the pressure of the air
What is Barometer
An air current in the upper atmosphere that flows from west to east. Where it flows greatly affects the weather.
What is Jet Stream?
This phrase is added to cloud names to show that their color is dark, and they will bring precipitation.
What is Nimbo/Nimbus?
This step of the water cycle is where water on the surface of Earth is held. This can be oceans, ponds, rivers, lakes, or even large puddles.
What is Collection?
The type of front that brings cooler weather. Also creates cumulonimbus clouds, and will rain for a short amount of time. This air mass is MORE dense than the air around it.
What is Cold Front?
This instrument is used to measure the amount moister in the air
What is Hygrometer
The unusual Warming of the surface water in the Eastern Pacific Ocean near the Equator. This causes a change in weather patterns.
What is El Nino?
This phrase is added to a cloud name to show that it is very high in the sky, or higher than normal.
What is Alto?
This step of the water cycle has to do with plants releasing water into the air. The water is "sweated" out of the plants as they are heated by the sun.
What is Transpiration?
