The name Antarctica literally translates to "no bears", but it actually comes from two Greek words that mean "not the Arctic". The name Arctic comes from the Greek word arktos, which means "bear", and refers to the two bear constellations, Ursa Major (Great Bear) and Ursa Minor (Little Bear), that are always visible above the Arctic Circle.
