  • Open questions: gives person control over interview, useful for exploration/elaboration.
  • Clarifying questions: check for understanding 
  • Probing questions: get more info about a topic. Can change focus or return to earlier focus. Over probing may create negative, interrogation response. 
  • Leading questions: direct response of listener, may not be person-centred as not much control over answer. May not give honest response.
