What type of patient file do you import into CD and do you need to import them individually?
DICOMs. You do not need to open each folder individually if there are multiple before uploading.
When do you adjust the skin threshold and why?
Skin threshold does not need to be adjusted and can be accepted as is. However, head positioning will require adjustment. Reduce the threshold transparency to 0, then ensure the facial midline dissects the nasal cavity (as a best as can be), while aligning the horizontal midline under the orbit and along the porion (top of the ear canal). For the submental view, facial midline should be through the foramen magnum (the passage through the skull connecting the brain to the spine).
When uploading the dental models, what type of file do we import into CD and where do you find it?
STL. Navigate to the Dental Models folder from the 2.1 Preparation folder and import the upper and lower jaw.
What file type must be dragged in to prepare dental models?
STL's
What is a rush case?
A case that must be designed and start production within the same day to meet the case date.
If there are multiple scans to choose from, which one do you use?
The most recent in-protocol scan or the marked "yes" in the data log. Physicians may have preferences as to which scans should be used, etc.
What items would you check for to add to the data log if you were a data technician that could affect the usability?
Check through all views of the DICOMs for movement, steps, and seated condyles. Check that the chin is not cut off as well.
After the dental models have loaded in, where are you required to set points?
On the condyles (adjust the Bone Threshold if they are not confidently visible), the Molars, and Incisors on either side of the Bone model
If your STL's also have bite scans/registrations, do you need to edit them?
You do not need to edit them, as they are part of the Occlusion.
How do you know what the rush cases are for the day?
An email-based communication will be sent to all pertinent parties, outlining all rush cases, their open tasks, and pertinent deadlines.
What general information do you check for about the scan after choosing one?
the date, slice thickness, and number of slices
What 3 types of files are required together in the same folder in order to add a 3D picture in IPS CaseDesigner?
OBJ format with MTL and JPG texture map
What do you do if the condyles are too large when adjusting the highlight block to encompass them?
Select ‘Expert Settings’ from the left Panel and change Condyle Size to Large or Extra Large.
What does the "Repair" function in 3D Builder do?
Repairing the models will fill in any missing data in the models
Once the designer has completed the Complete Design Task, what must occur for a rush case besides marking the task as complete in MC?
They are to immediately email Design Quality, the Planner, IPS Admin, and IPS Admin MFG and notate the case is a rush case. There is an email template for this under “Shared Templates > Email Templates”
What do you do if no DICOMs load in CD?
Open them in Mimics to check their orientation or other issues that might prevent them from loading in.
Why is it so important to import the prepped dental models vs the raw data dental models for case setup?
The prepped models have been cleaned up and all voids filled- if we use the raw data, and the model has a void we are not aware of, it causes a bug in CD where segmental occlusions cant be loaded in.
If you encounter any issues during the alignment that cannot be corrected, such as misalignments, where must this be noted?

Why do we adjust the bone threshold, how far should you adjust it, and why?
Reduces scatter from the scan. Adjust just enough to ensure you are able to see the condyles without breaking the midface. There should be enough of the midface present for Le Fort cuts. Also, the condyles should be unfused from the cranium.
What do you do when the condyles are fused to the skull during dental alignment?
If adjusting the bone threshold does not help, segmentation must be requested for the maxilla with fill and the mandible to aid in the separation of the anatomy. This will be imported during the dental alignment step.
What must be performed if after the points are set, the Alignment fails? Bonus points if you can tell us the steps.

What is Mimics used for after cleaning up dental models in 3D builder?
Wrapping & Smoothing. Unlike FreeForm, 3D Builder does not have a smoothing feature in its application. After cleaning up the Dental models in 3D Builder, you will have to then open the created STLs in Mimics.
What are the minimum amount of days needed from meeting date (without further approval) for splints, guides, & plates?
Splints: 5 days
Guides: 7 days
Plates: 10 days
