In the Studio...
R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
GOOD VIBES ONLY!
...but why though?
100

Our school expectations spell out H-O-M-E, as in the "Home of the Innocents".  The letters H-O-M-E stand for these four things.

What are Healthy Relationships, Ownership, Make Good Choices, and Effort?

100

Ms. Herning loves that you are excited to come to art class!  This is the proper way to enter the Studio.

What is waiting quietly in the hallway with staff and entering calmly?

100

To keep our studio safe, vibes good, and to maximize our time that we have together each day, this is how you should collect materials when you arrive to class.

What is quickly and quietly, keeping our hands to ourselves and staying in appropriate areas?

100

Ms. Herning gets overwhelmed if too many people are talking to her at once.  This is how you can help prevent her from getting cranky.

What is wait patiently if I see that she is in the middle of speaking with an adult or another student rather than interrupting?

100

These are ways to ensure you earn your piece of candy from Ms. Herning at the end of art class each day.

What is being respectful, keeping my head up, and making my best effort?

200

To demonstrate Healthy Relationships, you should do these things.  (List at least THREE!)

What are being kind, being respectful, being honest, being patient, communicating, listening, and maintaining boundaries?

200

There are many things that you can help yourself to in the art studio!  (Pencils, paper, coloring pages, coloring materials, etc).  There are some areas off limits to students, and you should communicate with Ms. Herning or staff if you think you need something in one of these "out of area" locations.

What is inside any drawers and cabinets, sink area counters shelves, Ms. Herning's desk area, and staff desk area/corner?

200

Ms. Herning takes meditation time VERY seriously.  These are the only two expectations during that three minutes at the start of class.

What is be in your assigned seat and at level zero (SILENT)?

200

Our school wide expectations and point systems serve a lot of purposes, but this is Ms. Herning's number one priority each day.

What is your physical and emotional safety?

200

Every other Friday we will have "Fun Friday", an opportunity to play and socialize with your peers at the end of the day in the school cafeteria.  What are two ways to guarantee you are not invited to a Fun Friday?

What is earning less than 80% of your points or receiving a behavior referral?

300

To demonstrate Ownership, you should do these things.  (List at least THREE!)

What are taking responsibility for yourself, not making excuses, and accepting consequences?

300

Ms. Herning loves to hear your comments and questions!  When you have things to ask or share, this is the appropriate way to go about that.

What is raising your hand and waiting patiently to be called on?

300

This is why it is important that we are in our assigned seats and level zero (SILENT) during our check-ins.

What is so we can hear each other's check ins and respect the community vibes?

300

To help develop our class community, Ms. Herning will make a playlist of (appropriate) song requests from students, which we can enjoy during our work time. In order to keep the good vibes rolling, it is important we do these things.

What is to not complain about the playlist, not request specific songs, and keeping our voices down?

300

If it is not a Fun Friday week, we will want to spoil you for doing your best!  This is what you can earn if you have 80%+ of your points and have not received a behavior referral.

What is Treat Friday?  (A snack & drink!)

400

To demonstrate Making Good Choices, you should do these things.  (List at least THREE!)

What are stopping breathing and thinking (before reacting!), asking questions, following directions, being your best self, and having a growth mindset?

400

Clean up will be a little different from project to project, so it is important to listen and follow instructions!  These are things you can always count on doing to help make sure we are keeping our studio nice.

What is returning the supplies I used, using a sponge to wipe down my table area, picking up my trash, sweeping my area, and being a helper in areas needed?

400

During our work time, you may help yourself to things you need in appropriate areas, so long as you move about the studio in this way.

What is respectfully and responsibly?

400

Instead of bombarding Ms. Herning with demands as soon as you walk in the room, these are some suggestions of things you can say first.

What is "hello", "good morning", and/or "how are you"?

400

This is how you can earn the title "Student of the Week!"

What is being the top earner of points in your school group?  (Based on %-not total points!)

500

To demonstrate Effort, you should do these things.  (List at least THREE!)

What are showing up, being awake, being focused, trying your best, taking your time, and being a team player?

500

When you have finished clean-up you will return to your assigned seat for closing.  Before lining up to head to your next class you should wait for the go ahead from one of these people.

Who is Ms. Herning, your HOTI staff, or other adults supporting in the Art Studio?

500

In order to help Ms. Herning be ready for the next class, please take responsibility for your area.  When an adult has given you the go ahead to line up to exit, please make sure you do this.

What is push in your chair?

500

In order to help Ms. Herning feel a little less beat up at the end of the day, these two phrases go a long way!

What are "please" and "thank you"?

500

These are a few of the perks that come along with being named "Student of the Week"!

What are having your picture displayed in the school, starring in the weekly newscast video, and earning a bonus treat?
