what is a coping skill?

100

what is a past accomplishment that you are most proud of?

100

You are eating by yourself at a table facing the door or a local restaurant when some people you know from high school enter. You aren't really close with them, but you are acquaintances.

What do you do?

100

tell me if this is true or not true:

i obsess over things a lot of times and have a tough time telling my brain to stop it.

i worry maybe a little too much over my child. I think she still needs more support and it's hard to see her growing up.

I still have nightmares from time to time.. usually involving my late husband.

Coping skills are difficult for me to recognize. I really don't have any productive way to calm down except for talking to somebody.

If i could have three wishes, it would be to be as thin as i was 20 years ago, have more time with my family for vacations, and to never feel sad ever again.

Please listen to your awesome counselor =0)

Would daily drinking be considered a coping skill?

yes, its a dangerous one though since it attacks the liver and causes damage to other areas of the body.

many use food for a coping skill.. "eating my feelings" as opposed to expressing them in a healthy way. Any thing can be used to cope for stress, and obviously not all of them are good ways to cope. People often self-medicate by using drugs or alcohol to numb their pain.

smoking is another one.. it tricks your brain into thinking you are calming down when in reality, it is raising your heart rate.. and depriving your muscles of oxygen, not to mention damaging the lungs.

Well I'm goin' away to leave
Won't be back no more
Goin' back down south, child
Don't you want to go?
Woman I'm troubled, I be all worried in mind
Well baby I just can't be satisfied
And I just can't keep from cryin'

Well I feel like snappin'
Pistol in your face
I'm gonna let some graveyard
Lord be your resting place
Woman I'm troubled, I be all worried in mind
Well baby I can never be satisfied
And I just can't keep from cryin'

Well now all in my sleep
Hear my doorbell ring
Looking for my baby
I couldn't see not a doggone thing
Woman I was troubled, I was all worried in mind
Well honey I could never be satisfied
And I just couldn't keep from cryin'

Well I know my little old baby
She gonna jump and shout
That old train be late man, Lord
And I come walking out
I be troubled, I be all worried in mind
Well honey ain't no way in the world could we be satisfied
And I just can't keep from crying

Go where you want to
Do the things you feel
Walk around with a broken leg
And a hundred-dollar bill
Get yourself a pistol
Get yourself a dog
Stay up all night getting drunk
Sleeping on a hollow log
Walk until you're restless
Sleep until you're tired
Wake up without thinking
You're the one that I desired

How would you describe Alex in this moment? What should he do if this feeling persists?

Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face
Don’t mind people grinnin’ in your face
You just bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find
Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face

You know your mother would talk about you
Your own sisters and your brothers too
They just don’t care how you’re tryin’ to live
They’ll talk about you still

Yes, but bear, ooh, this in mind, a true friend is hard to find
Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face
Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face
Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face

Oh, just bear, ooh this in mind, a true friend is hard to find
Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face

You know they’ll jump you up and down
They’ll carry you all 'round and 'round
Just as soon as your back is turned
They’ll be tryin’ to crush you down

Yes, but bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find
Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face
Don’t mind people grinnin’ in your face
Don’t mind people grinnin’ in your face, oh, Lord
