When should I start thinking about a future career?
You should start to think about a future career now. That way you can begin planning for college, start thinking about internships, and make sure you have the requirements and GPA to go to the college of your choice.
Be intentional about the classes you choose at the high school level. Explore your interests now, while it is free. Career exploration at the college level is expensive.

What is an AP course?
Advanced Placement (AP) is a program in the United States and Canada created by the College Board which offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations. Kinda like a way to earn college credits in high school. Typically some of the hardest/most challenging courses offered at the high school level.

No, however, many colleges look for two years of a language.... So actually, YES!
UNM requires two units of a Foreign Language (one year?).
In general, competitive colleges require at least two years of foreign language classes in high school. Stanford University would like to see three or more years, and Harvard University urges applicants to take four years.
