Mississippi, Atchafalaya, Red, Bogue Falaya
What are Louisiana Rivers? the Mighty Mississippi passes through Baton Rouge and on to New Orleans, then the Gulf. The Atchafalaya flows north to south between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. It is part of the Atchafalaya Basin that you will drive through when traveling west on I-10. The Bogue Falaya is Choctaw for "long river", although its only 23 miles in length.

Who was William Tecumseh Sherman? The general hasn't always been included in LSU's history. But he was the original superientendent in 1860, but his work was short lived after the school closed in 1861 due to the Civil War.

What is red beans and rice? This tradition goes back to the Acadians and their Monday wash day. While washing clothes a pot of red beans were prepared to serve over rice. It's a very common item on the Monday lunch menu's in many restaurants.

What is Natchitoches? Natchitoches is located in central Louisiana and was founding in 1714. It wasn't until 1718 that New Orleans was formally established. Most of New Orleans is on the East Bank of the river, anyway.

What is Pineville, La.? Our 1860 campus was in Pineville a small town in central Louisiana. It reopened after the war, but burned to the ground in 1869. In 1870 the location was moved to Baton Rouge, and we became LSU. There were two other campus locations in downtown Baton Rouge before our current campus open in 1932.

Who was Huey P. Long? The Kingfish is a part of LSU's history. He had a great affection for the school. He is the co-author of one of our fight songs, Touchdown for LSU. It is a part of the popular Pre-game Salute played by the marching band as they take the field for every football game.

What is the capacity of LSU's Tiger Stadium? Built in 1926, it has had 6 additions, the latest in 2014 to bring the capacity to its current count. It is the 5th largest campus stadium in America.

What is Mardi Gras? Carnival Season begins on January 6, the Epiphany and the 12th Day of Christmas. It ends on Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent. For 2016, Fat Tuesday is February 9, so the Carnival Season will be short next year. Carnival is celebrated by social organizations called "Krewes."

What is parish? Because of our Catholic heritage, our counties are actually parishes. In south Louisiana, if someone refers to "The Parish" they are likely referring to St. Bernard Parish, just below New Orleans.

What is the Louisiana Purchase? The land mass stretches from the lower regions of what is now Canada all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. President Thomas Jefferson initiated the purchase to protect U. S. trade to the port of New Orleans.

What is Women's Gymnastics? Gymnastics has had a great season this year, currently ranked #4 and headed to compete for the national championship in April. Their average is over 13,000 fans per meet this year. LSU baseball leads America in college attendance with 11,000 plus fans averaged for 18 years running!

Who are the Acadians or "Cajuns?"During the French and Indian War, Britain exiled these Canadians from Nova Scotia and other eastern Canadian provinces because they refused allegiance to the Crown. South La. was one of the most common relocation sites for these exiles.

What is "Little Eat Em Up" also accept "Sheik"? Little Eat Em Up made his debut in 1924. He was not a great mascot. In 1936 Sheik made his debut and was renamed "Mike" after the athletic trainer who was responsible for bringing him on board. The current Mike VI began his reign in 2007
