What are Louisiana Rivers? the Mighty Mississippi passes through Baton Rouge and on to New Orleans, then the Gulf. The Atchafalaya flows north to south between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. It is part of the Atchafalaya Basin that you will drive through when traveling west on I-10. The Bogue Falaya is Choctaw for "long river", although its only 23 miles in length.
