Tell me a few things about the nametags on the tables.

They say where to sit

The spots will move around each day

Empty-handed (don't touch yours or those of other class)

100

When it is time to clean up, where do you stand (before being dismissed to the blue tape line by the classroom door)?

Behind your chair

100

Today we are working with squares.  Mx. Erika passes out the squares and some people have different colors.  If you don't get your preferred color, what do you do?

Let it go, colors and objects don't matter with the math we are learning.

100

What is the volume level in the hallway?

0 (silent) or 1 (whisper)

200

Demonstrate with the person to your right how to come in to the classroom (pretend the question on the board is "would you work a job with computers or a job with animals?")

Level 0 when you come in

Level 2 when you are seated

One person sharing when all together

200

When you come in, it is volume 0 until you do what with your body?

Sit down

200

When Mx. Erika says "back together in 3...2...1..0," what do you need to be doing at 0?

Voices off

Tools down

Eyes on Mx. Erika

Seated with all four legs of the chair on the ground

200

What do you know about:

-how to win and lose a game

"Let it go" it's just a way to learn math

Many times it doesn't show how good you are at math, it shows how lucky you are with the roll or card draw

300

Why are there red lines on one of the tables and on the floor in the classroom?

Floor = stay on the classroom side of the red tape

Table = wait to touch the materials until they are passed out

Only return the tools to the table at the end of class

300

When you see Mx. Erika with the list of names, what are two things that you can do?

Come quietly

Put everything away (breakfast, book you're reading, etc.) so you come empty-handed

Tap someone on the list and point to the door

Greet (word or smile) Mx. Erika at the door

Wave, smile, pointer finger up to show that you saw and are coming

Continue listening to Mr. Theo or classmates who are sharing as you move

300

What do you need to do at clean up?

Pencils in correct place (dull or sharp)

Papers in turn in bin

Tools away with like tools

Stand behind your chair

300

When you are walking in the hallway, what will it look like and sound like?

In line

Quiet

Walking past lockers without stopping

Empty handed

Walking TOGETHER next to or behind Mx. Erika

Any stranger would think "you are a professional student"

400

What do you know about these:

-tissue

-bathroom pass

-dull pencil cup

-back table (at start of class or during)

Red line is not by the tissues, dull pencil cup.

Bathroom pass: take and return to the same spot.

Back table: on way in or during class if you need some space, move to the back table AND KEEP LEARNING

400

Why is it important to be at school and in math class each day?

To learn more

What we do on Thursday builds on what we did on Wednesday

If we aren't here at least 70% of the time, we will talk and talk to family and if it doesn't improve, you will be dropped so someone else can join.

400

Combined with question 500

See question 500 in this category.

400

Why do we walk efficiently and quietly in the hallway?

So other students can learn

So other adults can continue working

So we can get to the next thing quickly

500

2nd - 3rd Grade:

Is Mx. Erika a girl or a boy or something else?

4th - 5th Grade: Mx. Erika prefers to be called Mx. Erika because they are non-binary (don't identify with either "male" or "female" genders).

Which of these titles might someone use if they are married?

Mr. Mrs. Ms. Mx. Miss

Mx. Erika is neither a boy or a girl.  They are non- binary.

4th - 5th:

Mr. Mrs. Ms. Mx.

Miss is the only one that wouldn't be used for someone who is married.

500

If you arrive to class and really want to sit next to one person or really want to sit in one particular seat and you realize your nametag is not there, what can you do?

"Maybe tomorrow, I know it changes each day."

"It's no big deal, I'm here to learn math and I can ask that person to sit together at lunch."

500

To get full points for this question, each person needs to share one thing we can all agree to in math.  Each agreement needs to be different.

For example "be nice" "come empty-handed" "let it go if you lose a game" "respect volume 0 so we can all think"

Answers will vary but each student needs to share something different (WRITE DOWN IDEAS)

2nd-3rd:

Mx. Erika passes out math tools and you get one that you don't prefer (object or color).  You can think back to Miss Chong's lessons and do what to help you move on?

5th (choose question above or this one):

Why is it important to walk past the lockers and bathrooms without stopping?

2nd - 3rd:

Take a breath

Tell yourself, "maybe next time"

Tell yourself, "it's not a big deal, another time I might get what I hoped for."

5th grade answer:

Because we don't have much time together and we want to spend as much time as possible learning math together
