Pioneers walked beside their covered wagons which held all of their belongings. The wagons were pulled by Oxen and would travel 10 to 20 miles per day. The terrain was rugged and dangerous. Some dangers they might face on an average day were disease, harsh weather, river crossings, and being attacked by wild animals.

Some negative effects of the Industrial Revolution were increased pollution and sickness in cities, unfair conditions for children in the labor force, and unsafe working conditions for all factory workers.
