It was bad. People were forced to work long hours in extremely hazardous conditions. There was no HR, so people had to listen to their bosses no matter what if they wanted to keep their job. Children worked long hours, and often suffered the worst injuries. Pay was scarce. Social classes became more distanced. Small businesses were crippled by industry.
