Missouri comes into the union as a Slave State and Maine comes in as a Free State.

People that faced harsh discrimination by 49ers and were forced out of the gold mines.

People that moved West to escape religious persecution. Settled in the Utah area.

This was a secret network of free blacks and whites who helped slaves escape to free states and Canada.
