The name was chosen by a contest run in local schools Both Lynn Smith and Patricia Dalling of High River were awarded $5.00 for their respective submissions of “Medicine Tree Manor”. The name pays tribute to the historical cottonwood tree which had two conjoined trunks that was considered a sacred tree by the Blackfoot nation and came to be regarded as a symbol of the community of High River.
